The Solar PV Course Package – City & Guilds 2399-01 Environmental Awareness and City & Guilds 2399-11 Level 3 Award in the Installation of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems

Solar PV Course Package – Foundation

The Trades e-Academy, in partnership with the NICEIC, has developed a range of renewable energy course packages allowing you to specialise in small scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems (Solar PV). These courses are part of a blended learning solution where online training is combined with in-centre practical training and assessment.

The renewable energy foundation course package consists of:

  • Environmental Awareness (2399-01)
  • Solar PV Installation (2399-11)

Course Summaries

Environmental Awareness (2399-01)

This renewable energy foundation qualification has been designed to enable learners to develop a fundamental knowledge of micro-renewable energy and water conservation technologies; including solar thermal (hot water); solar PV; heat pumps (ground and air); micro wind; biomass; micro-hydro; micro-combined heat and power; rain water and grey water harvesting. The knowledge gained from this course will be ideal for advising potential clients on the best installation to meet their requirements.

This qualification is suitable for practicing electricians who have completed their 17th Edition qualification and are looking to complete further qualifications in renewable energy technologies without spending two days in the classroom.

It is estimated that the online course material will take approximately 2 hours to complete (depending on learning speed). As an e-learning course you can complete this training in convenient stages and revisit whenever you wish. The system will record your progress throughout.

Solar PV Installation (2399-11)

This e-learning qualification has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of small scale solar photovoltaic systems. Learners will gain an understanding of the relevant regulations / standards, standard test conditions, health and safety considerations, electrical connections and system components, inspection processes, and the testing, certification and handover procedures.

This qualification is suitable for learners who would like to expand their business or for learners that would like to advance their understanding of the PV industry. It may also be suitable for anyone requiring an understanding of the installation requirements of a small scale PV system.

It is estimated that the online course material will take approximately 12-18 hours to complete (depending on learning speed). As an e-learning course you can complete this training in convenient stages and revisit whenever you wish. The system will record your progress throughout.

In addition to this, the course price includes two days in-centre practical training and assessment at Dunstable or Chesterfield test centres.

How It Works

This is a general guide to how the system works. If you have a specific question or concern please contact us directly?

What

This is an online course, all the training will be taken through your browser window. There will be no face-to-face sessions with instructors. If you wish you may print out any page of the training material and may also print the notes you took during the training.

You can also revisit the training material at any time, even after you have completed the course. You will also receive a NICEIC learning support guide through the post. If you need a set of regulations the 17th Edition Standard Manual can be purchased separately.

How

The material for this course has been broken down into several smaller lessons, each lesson dealing with a specific area of the overall subject.

The lesson consists of a series of pages in which an instructor will talk you through the lesson material at a pace that suits you. Pages may also include supporting pictures, graphs, animation or extra sounds to help with the learning where appropriate. Some lessons will include challenges / quizzes to help you keep in touch and interested in the material.

Lessons can be taken in any order and each lesson may be PAUSED and RESUMED at any stage. When all lessons in the course have been completed you will be able to take (and retake) an online revision test.

When

The course is self-paced so you decide how fast or slow the training goes. You can complete the course in stages revisiting the training at any time.

Examination

To gain your certification, you must take an examination at an approved GOLA test centre. The examination fee is included in the price of this course, so there’s no extra to pay.

Please note that the practical training and assessment for this course are in Dunstable and Chesterfield only.
